Tally Prime screenings check whether you can record everyday transactions correctly, not whether you know every menu. Expect questions such as which voucher records a cash deposit, which group a supplier ledger belongs to, or which report shows all entries for a day. A wrong voucher or group can make the books look balanced while the reports are wrong.

This page has 15 practice questions, two lessons on vouchers and masters, and interview answers you can adapt. Use the explanations to understand the reasoning behind each entry.

Benchmark: The pass mark is 80%, and Tally Prime is commonly screened for accounts assistant, billing and junior accountant roles. Requirements vary by employer.

Common questions

Do I need to memorise every shortcut key?

No. Knowing the standard voucher keys, such as F4 for Contra and F5 for Payment, helps, but screenings focus on choosing the right voucher and ledger group.

Is Tally knowledge enough for an accounts role?

It helps you enter transactions quickly, but employers also check basic accounting: debits and credits, reconciliation and reading a Trial Balance. Learn both together.

How do I practise without company data?

Create a test company and enter made-up transactions for a small shop: purchases, sales, rent, bank deposits and salary. Then read the reports to see the effect of each entry.
