Typing is the first thing most office and work-from-home employers test. The formats are predictable, so a few days of practice in the right format moves your score more than weeks of random typing.

Benchmark: 35 WPM net at 90% accuracy is the common entry benchmark; chat roles often ask for 40+. Requirements vary by employer.

Common questions

What typing speed do I need for online typing jobs?

Most entry-level roles ask for 35 words per minute net with 90 percent accuracy. Chat support often asks for 40 to 50. Transcription tends to want 50 or more with near-perfect accuracy. Always check the job description.

What is the difference between gross and net WPM?

Gross counts everything you typed. Net subtracts a penalty for errors, usually one word per error. Employers score net.

Is this test the same as the one employers use?

The formats match what is commonly used: a one-minute business passage, a longer timed passage, and a ten-minute exam-style run. Passages and exact scoring vary by employer, so treat your score here as a reliable estimate rather than a guarantee.
