Selenium screenings mostly check whether you can write stable tests, not whether you remember every method. Expect questions on choosing a locator, fixing a test that fails only sometimes, switching into a frame or a new window, and reading exceptions such as NoSuchElementException and StaleElementReferenceException.

Code on this page uses Java syntax because it is common in screenings, and the same ideas apply in Python, C# and JavaScript bindings. The lessons cover locators and waits first, then frames, windows and the Page Object Model.

Benchmark: The pass mark on this site is 80%, and Selenium is commonly screened for automation tester, SDET and QA engineer roles. Requirements vary by employer.

Common questions

Do I need to know Java to pass Selenium screenings?

You need one language well. Many screenings use Java, but Python is also common, and the WebDriver concepts are the same in each.

Which Selenium version do these questions assume?

They assume current WebDriver-based Selenium and avoid details that changed between versions. Older Selenium RC is not covered.

Is Selenium enough for an automation role?

Usually not on its own. Employers commonly also look for a test framework, version control, basic CI understanding and API testing.
