Git screenings test whether you can work in a shared repository without causing problems for the team. Expect short scenarios: you committed to the wrong branch, a merge stopped with a conflict, you need to undo a commit that is already pushed, or you want to save half-finished work before switching tasks.

This page lets you test those situations against the pass mark. The questions use standard command-line Git, and the lessons explain branching, merging and the safe ways to undo changes, which are the areas where most candidates lose marks.

Benchmark: The pass mark is 80%, and Git is commonly screened for developer, QA automation, DevOps and data engineering roles. Requirements vary by employer.

Common questions

Do I need to know a Git hosting platform for this test?

No. The questions use Git commands that work the same with any hosting service. Pull requests are covered as a general review workflow, not the screens of one product.

Should I learn git switch or git checkout?

Learn both. git switch and git restore are newer and clearer, but git checkout is still common in older guides and team scripts, and screenings may show either.

Is a graphical Git tool enough?

It helps for viewing history, but many teams expect you to understand the commands, because conflicts and undo steps are easier to reason about when you know what each command does.
