Chat and email support jobs in Kenya: how to qualify

What chat and email support work looks like for job seekers in Kenya, how employers screen it, and the free test that shows whether you would pass.

The work

Answer customer messages for shops, apps and telecom brands, usually in shifts that match the client's time zone.

How it is screened: A 60-second typing test (most ask 35 to 40 WPM), then a short written reply checked for tone and clarity, then a customer-service scenario round.

What is usual in Kenya

  • Typing tests are almost always 60 seconds in US or UK English; practise with the Office and BPO format.
  • Transcription work for US and UK clients expects 98% accuracy; the paragraph test is the closest format.
  • Payment is usually to a mobile money account or a payment platform; a legitimate client never asks you to pay first.
  • Time zones: most clients are 7–10 hours behind; night and early-morning shifts are common.

Pay is set by the client's country more than yours; the salary calculator shows illustrative ranges in KES.

Never pay to apply. Registration, training, kit or verification fees are the most common job scam in Kenya and everywhere else.
